Transferring Credits toward a Bachelor’s Degree
Transferring credits to Newlane is a straightforward process, and students can confidently start their coursework prior to receiving a provisional or official transfer credit evaluation. This page gives you the information you need to get started whether or not you have transfer credits.
For reference, Newlane’s Bachelor’s degrees require 120 credits, and students can transfer a maximum of 90 credits toward that 120 credit total. Newlane courses are 3 credits each, so 90 credits = 30 courses, and 30 credits = 10 courses. If you’re transferring credits, two factors determine how much coursework you’ll need to complete through Newlane in order to earn your degree(s):
-
- FACTOR 1: Whether you’ve already earned an Associate degree (or other anchor credential such as another Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree).
-
- FACTOR 2: How many transferable credits (grade C– or higher) you have earned.
| Fewer than 90 transferable credits | 90+ transferable credits | |
| Associate (or higher credential) earned |
To earn your Bachelor’s degree, you’ll need to take the 10 courses for your major, plus electives to reach the total credits needed. See the list of 10 courses for your selected degree. (Electives would be in addition to these 10.)

To earn your Bachelor’s degree, you only need to take the 10 courses for your major. See the list of 10 courses for your selected degree. |
| Associate (or higher credential) NOT earned | You’ll first need to earn an Associate degree. See Associate degree table below. |
You’ll first need to earn an Associate degree, though, potentially, you may only need 10 courses total to earn both the Associate and Bachelor’s degrees. You’d first complete the Associate degree, and may need to satisfy one or more general education categories to do this. The 10 courses you need for the Bachelor’s degree can also satisfy many or all of the general education requirements needed for your degree. See Associate degree table below. |
Transferring Credits toward an Associate Degree
Newlane’s Associate degree requires 60 credits, and students can transfer a maximum of 45 credits toward that 60 credit total. Newlane courses are 3 credits each, so 45 credits = 15 courses, and 15 credits = 5 courses. If you’re transferring credits toward an Associate degree at Newlane, two factors determine your remaining coursework:
- FACTOR 1: Whether you have fewer or more than 45 transferable credits (grade C– or higher).
- FACTOR 2: Whether you’ve completed all general education categories.
