Newlane University Receives Accreditation by DEAC Validating Affordable $1500 Philosophy Degree
DEAC is recognised as an accrediting agency by the United States Department of Education and Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Accreditation by DEAC is a valuable marker for students and faculty considering Newlane. It serves as a significant validation and strengthens Newlane’s standing as an affordable option for people seeking to earn or complete their college degree online.
Ben Blair, Co-Founder and President of Newlane University noted that this accreditation is a major milestone for Newlane, especially for its students and faculty, and a recognition of the quality work Newlane has been doing for years. “The accreditation process involves a rigorous review to ensure that an institution is currently meeting all of the standards of accreditation–standards like administrative consistency, curriculum quality, sufficient student support, and meaningful assessments. From our beginnings, we have strived to make quality online liberal arts education accessible to everyone. Our students and faculty have known for some time that we can excel at doing this with our model, and this accreditation is a substantial stamp of approval, and recognition of the quality of our work.”
Josh Stanley, Co-Founder and CTO remarked that this accreditation helps Newlane fulfill its mission. “Our mission is ‘to make quality online liberal arts higher education accessible to anyone on earth by breaking down the barriers of cost, schedule, and geography.’ This accreditation strengthens our ability to do this by making it easier for students and faculty to trust our innovative model, knowing that it meets DEAC’s exacting standards.”
Newlane currently offers two degrees, an Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts, and a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy. Blair notes that Newlane’s degree programs are intentionally designed to remove some of the major barriers to students earning a college degree today. “We know that due to the exorbitant cost and inflexible schedules of universities today, many people who want to earn or finish their degree are blocked. Our model–priced at $1500 total for a degree, payable at $249 at registration, then $39/month until a student reaches $1500–is a fraction of the typical cost, and allows students to work at their own pace and get the support they need to complete their degree.” With this accreditation, students who meet the demanding requirements of Newlane’s degree programs can rest assured that these affordable degrees, which offer much more flexibility in scheduling than other options, also meet accreditation standards.
