Director of Marketing (Remote)
About Newlane
Newlane University is a nationally accredited, fully online, competency-based university built to make high-quality education radically affordable. Students progress at their own pace and complete degrees for a fraction of the traditional cost of higher education.
We are mission driven and operate with a double bottom line:
- Sustainable, disciplined growth
- Expanding access to higher education
As we scale, more students gain access to a respected degree without taking on excessive debt. Growth and mission move together.
The Role
We are looking for a Director of Marketing (5–8+ years experience) who knows how to build and scale revenue systems.
We have meaningful traction. Now we need a growth driver who can take our marketing to the next level by doubling down on what works and decisively cutting what does not.
The Director of Marketing will own enrollment growth at an efficient acquisition cost.
This is a performance-driven, hands-on leadership role responsible for designing, building, and optimizing the full marketing engine, from market research and positioning to acquisition, conversion, and financial efficiency.
You will operate with executive-level accountability and significant autonomy.
What You’ll Do
Growth Strategy & Market Intelligence
- Conduct ongoing market research to understand target segments, objections, and demand trends
- Refine positioning, messaging, and brand narrative to increase trust and conversion
- Identify strategic growth opportunities across paid, organic, and partnership channels
Paid & Organic Acquisition
- Develop and oversee SEO and content strategy to drive high-intent organic traffic and rapidly test marketing messaging
- Own and execute paid acquisition across Meta, Google, TikTok, Linkedin, Reddit and potentially other emerging platforms
- Allocate and reallocate budget decisively based on performance
- Improve cost per application and cost per enrollment by channel
Brand, Messaging & Content
- Shape clear, compelling messaging that differentiates Newlane to a skeptical market
- Oversee complete execution of content strategy that aligns with enrollment goals
- Ensure brand consistency across ads, landing pages, and communications
Conversion & Funnel Optimization
- Increase Visitor → Application conversion
- Improve Application → Enrollment conversion through management of our admissions counselors
- Lead landing page testing and CRO initiatives
- Identify and eliminate bottlenecks across the funnel
Analytics & Financial Discipline
- Maintain a rigorous analytics and reporting framework
- Diagnose growth constraints using data
- Tie acquisition efforts to 3- and 6-month student revenue
Manage CAC and churn with discipline
Ownership Mindset
This role comes with full accountability for outcomes. We are looking for someone who takes initiative, identifies opportunities without being prompted, and moves quickly to test and implement solutions.
You should be comfortable operating with autonomy, setting priorities based on impact, and driving execution without waiting for detailed instructions.
If something is unclear or underperforming, you take responsibility for diagnosing and improving it.
Who This Role Is For
This role is ideal for a marketing leader who has operated inside high-performing environments and is ready to step into full accountability for revenue-driving outcomes.
You are ready to build, scale, and own the growth engine of a serious organization.
You are fluent in content marketing, SEO fundamentals, market research, paid social, branding, and conversion optimization. You understand how these systems interact and compound over time.
You’ve worked within disciplined growth environments and are ready for full accountability over revenue-driving outcomes.
As the company grows, there is significant opportunity for meaningful equity and expanded leadership scope based on performance.
Compensation
Base salary of $90,000-$120,000
Performance-based bonuses tied directly to enrollment growth and CAC targets
Stock options in a growing university
Why This Matters
Higher education has become financially inaccessible for millions of people. Newlane is building a scalable alternative that expands access without sacrificing quality or rigor.
If you are excited about owning marketing in a rapidly growing company, shaping positioning in a high-trust market, and building a growth engine that compounds over time, we’d love to talk.
